Warner made his first-class debut playing for new South Wales against Western Australia in the final match of the 2008-09 Sheffield Shield season. On 29 November 2008, warner hit his first domestic one day century for New South Wales with a score of 165 against Tasmania at Hurstville Oval in Sydney. In 2009, he set a new record for the fastest half-century scored in the Australian domestic Twenty20 Cricket, 50 in 18 balls against Tasmania.
